Apostra Unveils its Agentic Future, pivoting away from Scope3
Apostra has officially made the launch of its autonomous agentic intelligence platform, after being teased by BOK in August as a new means for how advertising should operate through the use of buying / selling agenets. The birth of Apostra signals the end of the Scope3 branding, which remains but in a lower cadence for the sustainability product that made noise over the past few years.
The YouTube introduction showcases the clear ambition for the company, to bring in a new era of advertising planning / buying / selling that goes beyond what traditional digital does today in a programmatic world. Notably is the plug to be able to operate not just with legacy digital vendors, but non-digital placements as well as operational with the walled garden platforms. With the team having been a big part of the Ad Context Protocol (AdCP) and the AAO workstream, the writing was always on the wall for an agentic platform to eventually release.
The agentic buying ecocsystem is becoming pretty popular, with advertisers trying to save on costs whilst agencies try to defend against a theme that could migrate towards in-housing. Plenty of competition exists to Apostra but not many have the technical skill and experience of what the team have achieved before in a programmatic world. That is not to say this will be plain sailing. Measurement is a key hurdle yet to be unblocked, beyond vanity metrics that don't mean much to a mature brand. And there still needs to be robust QA process beyond the gating that exists in these agentic workflows. But it is a sign that LLMs and Agents are becoming imperative in how to plan / buy smarter, as long as the Walled Gardens decide to stay away, which is unlikely. And clearly there are a lot of bad actors out there promising agentic workflow / products but are ultimately inefficient or could be done smarter on your own. So be safe out there!
