No not really, but it has historically been in an machine learning / algorithmic form, which is the baseline for any leading ad platform or DSP. The main shift has come from the creative side, which is effectively what Generative AI is.

Predominately the use cases for Gen AI are to output some form of content or creative based on an input that is applied to a large language model. So by design, this is not optimisation in the true sense of the word.

The biggest reasoning for this is the legal / copyright implications of a GenAI approach vs ML. Whilst both result in an output based on data that is trained, there are far more grey areas with regards to a content based output, that is now subject to new AI regulations being created by region.
